Design Practice III//Negotiated Briefs//Lulu & The Lens Photography & Cath Kidston Branding.

During a discussion with brand ideas with Lulu, and her particular tastes and brand inspirations, she cited homeware and surface pattern designer, and acclaimed brand, Cath Kidston, as a particular favourite (images and retail items from the brand can be found in source linked images below as well as through the website link, above).

Truly feminine, homely, and girlie, Cath Kidston's branding is a natural fit for both Lulu's personality and her portfolio of work. The hand-rendered style type brand identity works seamlessly over a range of printed media and retail items, which, obviously, to a lower scale, I attempt to achieve with Lulu's own brand.

From my research so far, and discussing ideas with Lulu, I'm currently looking at developing a typographic brand identity in a bold, yet simple style that can be used as a brand identity on a range of both print and digitally designed product outcomes, as well as a potential watermark for her images. At the present moment, I'm considering a clean, yet script- based serif type that will have elements of both the traditional style and subject matter of Lulu's portfolio, but also a contemporary edge to make her stand out from her contemporaries. Really looking forward to starting some design developments, and getting the initial brief written up over the next couple of days.
