Collection 100 Research: Martin Parr.

Martin Parr- British documentary photographer and photojournalist, with common subjects centering around consumerism, travel and tourism, family, food, relationships, and food.

Parr was quick to gain popularity within his photographic practice from the mid-1970's with a humourous, intimate and satirical theme to which many could relate- most frequently with candid scenes, catching the rawest, and most truthful moments in human nature.

For a long time, particularly throughout college, i found myself "reluctant" to warm to Parr's works- often considering them to be "over-hyped" and unstyalised, though now, a few years later, with far more appreciation and analytical direction in photographic tastes, I really appreciate his work, finding it warming, if slightly haunting- with a vouyeristic quality that I now love within portraiture- capturing "the moment", often proving very emotive and human.
