Design Practice III//Negotiated Briefs//LCA Graduate Show & Jessie Leong.

Whilst discussing potential developments and the future of working together on the LCA Graduate Show 2013, yesterday Claudia and I discussed the potential prospect of working with various medias for the branding and promotional designs. In recent years, something that has been particular popular with both the University marketing team, and from our own personal tastes, has been the use of portraiture photography.

Although photography is something that I have a little experience in, particularly working on it whilst at college and as a personal hobby in my free time, it would be great it we could further the collaboration and have a really high-end and professional design outcome.

Naturally, due to an existing collaboration, one of my first thoughts was to work with Jessie Leong, the second year LCA photography student with whom I am currently working on to develop her own personal branding. Jessie's eye of popping, bright studio photography would work perfectly with a strong conceptual narrative and branding, and, at this stage though only provisional, we have been lucky enough for Jessie to confirm that she'd be interested in working with us, so we can plan and look forward to getting started with some development and conceptual "brainstorming" for the future collaborative competition brief.

Design Practice III//Negotiated Briefs//LCA Graduate Show Collaboration.

As one of the collaborative briefs within the ten negotiated briefs, myself and Claudia Griffin, fellow BA Graphic Design student at Leeds College of Art, and, even more fortunately, housemate, have decided to work together to produce a design proposal for the end of year/LCA graduate show 2013.

I'm really excited to work with Claudia on this competitive and high-profile brief, as a YCN award winner, Claudia has undoubtedly got a great deal of talent and determination which I aspire to balance with my motivation and conceptual development for a well-rounded, and ultimately successful design outcome.

Throughout the brief, I will refer and link Claudia's blog address for shared design work, the link of which, in this post, can be found at the top of the page.

Design Practice III//Negotiated Briefs//LCA Graduate Show & Leeds College of Art History.

Upon starting the research into the design developments for the proposed concept of the (collaborative brief) Leeds College of Art Graduate Show, I have begun researching a little more into the history of the College, along with the courses, to see if this will create any influence in terms of balance or representation in the direction of the concept, or whether it's history could perhaps influence a contemporary twist, or design upon the Art College's heritage.

More information and a brief bio/history of the College can be found below, with information from the independent Wikipedia source page.

LEEDS COLLEGE OF ART

Leeds College of Art is a specialist arts further and higher education institution, based in the city of Leeds, West Yorkshire, England, with a main campus opposite the University of Leeds. It was founded in 1846 as the Leeds School of Art. From 1968 to 1993 it was known as Jacob Kramer College - having lost part of its provision to Leeds Polytechnic (the future Leeds Metropolitan University). It was known as Leeds College of Art and Design until 2009.
The college today has sites both at Blenheim Walk and at Vernon Street in the City Centre, and offers B.A. (Hons) degrees. These degrees are currently validated by the Open University. Like many of the 'traditional' British art schools, it has a modest annual intake, currently at 640 higher education students a year.

The current principal is Simone Wonnacott.
The college also welcomes international students.

Design Practice III//Negotiated Briefs//LCA Graduate Show Branding.

For one of my ten briefs, I intend to collaborate on the annual competition brief to design the advertising, marketing, branding and wayfinding/signage design for the Leeds College of Art graduate degree show, which is held in July, with the briefs often being released around mid-Easter time.

Hopefully, fellow BAGDer and housemate, Claudia and I will be working on creating  a unique, memorable and distinctive brand concept for the end of year show which will later be presented to the marketing team, along with all other entries to decide whether or not our concept has been selected.

As of yet, we are to discuss in detail our initial concepts and developments, but look forward to having more focus when I return to Leeds next week. In the meantime, I will go on to research the University, degree programmes and past branding and design selected to ensure we have an in-depth knowledge and insight, to hopefully combine with our design practice and experience to create a substantial and effective design outcome.
