What Is Graphic Design For?: Type- ABC.

A charming monochrome typeface by Anna Soderberg- a graphic designer from the Beckmans College of Design in Stockholm- this series named "Ornis" was her graduateion piece, inspired by illustrative letterforms from the Middle Ages with decorative initials, hers being based on the theme of birds.

Printed 50x60cm onto 140gsm white matte paper- this is undoubtedly a well crafted and aesthetically pleasing design. The way that Soderberg manipulates and transforms the shape of the birds to the letterforms is quite remarkable- as she doesn't affect the readibilty or legibility in any way.

However, I would be quite interesyed to see a coloured sample of the series- though of course this would bring more difficulties in regards to printing costs and overall aesthetic appeal, it could completely transform the image from something well designed to something vibrant, energetic and eye-catching...something which would really jump out from the page.
